The Harvest Volunteer Information

Volunteer Scheduling
We strongly encourage anyone who would like to volunteer to sign up with our Scheduling Coordinator, Chris Douglas (douglaschr@comcast.net). If you come on a Wednesday night and are not on the schedule, we can not guarantee that there will be work for you. However, if it is your first time volunteering, we will be happy to show you around the pantry to see how you may best use your specific gifts of service.

Areas to Serve
Set-up (starts at 5:00 pm)
To be prepared to open doors at 6:00 pm we need volunteers to set up in the following areas:

  • new patrons check-in — putting out new patron intake forms, general food pantry information and any other Vineyard event flyers.
  • registration desk — putting out sign-in sheets, computer, etc
  • cozy corner hospitality — setting up chairs, and putting out beverages, treats for patrons,
  • napkins, cups, etc.
  • distribution area — this is the area where patrons are taken through the distribution line to receive their food and toiletries. Tables and shelving units need to be arranged, prepacked bags need to be assembled and put on tables as well as any other food that will be given out.
New Patron Check-in/Registration
Greeting patrons, checking them in, helping newcomers fill out forms, if necessary, providing Harvest information and guidelines

Hospitality
Overseeing the beverages and treats in the Cozy Corner. Hospitality crew also helps clean up this area
during and at the end of the evening.

Harvest Prayer Ministry Team
Individuals that mingle, build relationships and pray for patrons. If you are interested in serving on the Harvest Ministry Team, please contact Lisa Haskin (lisa@fauxtransformations.com) for more detailed information.

Distribution
Prepacking bags, stocking or restocking shelves, serving and taking patrons through the distribution line and miscellaneous tasks like breaking down boxes, packaging bread donations, etc.

Clean-up
Consists of putting away any undistributed food, cleaning up hospitality area, sweeping up, etc.

Other ways to serve (not on Wednesday nights)
If you’d like to serve at the food pantry but are unable to come on Wednesday nights, there are other ways to help. Listed below are a few ideas. If you have any questions or would like to help in any of these areas, please contact Lisa Haskin (lisa@fauxtransformations.com).
  • development of a resource center for patrons
  • development of a “needs exchange” between patrons and our church community
  • solicitation of donations from stores and companies in the area
  • drivers needed for food donation pick-ups
  • have your own food drive in your neighborhood, school or work
